Something I found interesting is the canned wine products. Most people fine it cheep or less refine. But I really enjoy this companies design.
Aslo http://bywordofmouse.tumblr.com/post/18914713300/canned-wine-product-packaging this blog has spotlighted another design I really like. In the above image the material itself reinforces the feeling the product is trying to convoy.

Here is a great website that was a link on the side from the PRINT website I posted last week. There are tons for examples for colors, labels, and all sort of packaging made from a variety of materials that incorporate wood, metal, sculpture, and old design packaging examples.

Franzia Redesign

Franzia Redesign!

I came across the flickr user Nnniiiiiiccccckkk Hum, a student at MICA. For a project he redesigned the infamous boxed wine Franzia. This project caught my attention because the student used wood from recycled wine crates, and it gives the giant juice box of wine a more upscale look plus that idea reuses former packing material. The logo was simplified and looks screen printed onto the box, which I loved of course as a printmaker. Scroll through the photostream to see all the sides of the box!

Spray Paint Cans

http://www.flickr.com/photos/ironlak/4534328138/sizes/o/in/photostream/

I use spray paint a lot myself so seeing these limited edition artist series cans by Ironlak was really fun to look at. I feel the graphics make this package, but it works well having each can an different design by each graffiti artist.

Something that most people dont see very often is Military packaging. I came acrose this site that shows a few different types. http://www.psicases.com/blog/ Its interesting to see how utilitarian the designs are but also how COOL and iconic the design has been made by films and tv.

The Candwich!

http://markonefoods.com/

This is the Candwich, the "go anywhere" sandwich in a can. Or, really, it's a tube. I thought this was definitely one of the most out-of-the-box packaging presentations out there, as you wouldn't usually pair a sandwich with a tube.
However, the real idea of the product is misleading. When you first observe it's on-the-go style and statement, wouldn't you expect a pre-made sandwich to come out of the tube? Really it's a Luchables-style sandwich that you make yourself. I wouldn't recommend eating it, but it's certainly the start of an interesting packaging idea.

Peltolan

I came across this package design within an app on my phone. I was inspired by the way the company used wood grain to create subtle images (farm cows, tractors, etc). I also like the convex transparent area within the middle of the package. This is the most recent design that this company has made, but they actually have many different designs that are also inspiring!

Oh Good Grain! Flour

Jessica Njoo's package design for flour uses sustainable soy inks to screen print the images on organic cotton bags.

I've totally purchased little bags like this for buying grains and lentils from the bulk section, and would definitely be more likely to buy flour with a bag I can reuse. This was a double whammy to me because not only does it include printmaking but it also has a clean, slightly retro design. Plus, she's an undergrad student and it's always interesting to see what other students are making. If only all of my groceries could come in pretty packages...

PRINT

PRINT magazine

color

Print magazine is online, but I have been subscribed to by mail. PRINT shares regional graphic designs of all kinds "for more information and for more inspiration" based wether it be information for competitions, other art blogs, tutorials, and resource links. This is a communication itself through the arts of all designs, graphic, illustration, packaging etc.

If you want inspiration, this is the best website or magazine to look at. It provides resources and concepts relating to designs for everything and anything you can think of. Also, PRINT is available for anyone who wants to enter their own designs to be published in the magazine that is shared throughout the United States.

Check it out!

Looking around the web for package design i come upon a students flickr. I'm guessing this person attended a art school to take all of her art based classes. My link is to her package design pieces the images show different kinds of packages i'm guessing she had to do for assignments. Looking a students work can help give ideas and thoughts on package design.

The Dieline

http://www.thedieline.com/

Here's a website I dug into while playing around StumbleUpon, relevant for our purposes. The Dieline is a blog-like website that honors unique and beautiful packaging from around the world, the most viewed website in the world for packaging design. It is also home to its very own packaging design awards show, and has gradually become famous for its graphic design book, titled Book, Bottle, Bag, and annually hosts an international design conference. The colorful designs that they present are always fun and interesting to look at, certainly inspiration for any designs we may come up with. I can't wait to start experimenting!

Smashing Magazine Article

Beautiful & Expressive Packaging

This blog, provided by Smashing Magazine, shows a large range of interesting and effective packaging.  My favorites that provide the most inspiration are the flavor packs, especially the "sleeve" design for Pot-of and the chocolate examples. Make sure to scroll down through the entire blog to see all the great examples of packaging today.
